bones

I had to create a conceptual installation using any type of "material" associated with food. I Chose to use bones. Chicken bones to be precise. When I was young I had a pet Chicken, Bont-Jan. As you can probably tell by his name, he was not a very impressive chicken. I loved him very much (as much as any two year old girl would love a chicken) . I always wondered why he couldn't fly. When I questioned my mother about this, she simply said; "Chickens can't fly. Hy's maar 'n ou Bont-Jan". I thought this was very unfair of life to have given him featers and wings- but not the ability to fly.

As I grew older,I realised life hands you unfair situations. Life owes you nothing, and therefore you should not take anything for granted. Do what you love. If you want something, work for it.
What I'm trying to say here (in a "conceptual" way) is : Just because Bont-Jan couldn't fly, it didn't make him any less of a bird.
